Ebay on the Verge Take Over the Fashion worldEarlier this month, eBay, most popular as an online auction website, isn't taking the success of competitors from Net-A-Porter to Gilt Groupe lightly. They have just launched there new site Fashion.eBay.com. eBay's exclusive collaboration with the likes of Norma Kamali and Narciso Rodriguez clearly states that they are on the verge of building up it's credential as the latest fashion items portal destination.

The newly launched Fashion.eBay.com features facets such as the 'Fashion Vault,' which offers significant discounts on designer clothing direct from sellers and comes sans shipping fees. Not only they are in retailing but also looking to cover the editorial as well. It also means that they are now not only competing with mega retailers but also with the magazines as well.

With competitor Gilt's discount on designer shoes features, Annabel Tollman, celebrity stylist, has been hired by eBay to take on the role as the “brand ambassador.” She will be involved from tweeting to curating editorial landing pages and hosting digital videos on shopping, bargain hunting, outfitting and fashion trends activities according to Women’s Wear Daily.

Given the fact that Fashion.eBay.com will cover all aspects of trend forecasting and content creation, offering a wealth of shopping resources, it would transform Fashion.eBay.com as an every other retail-meets-editorial outlet.

The site has all of the makings to become a bona fide rival for the aforementioned retail mavens. It also just goes to show that these days retail-driven online destinations are realizing that content creation is as essential as a checkout aisle.
